Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is she heavyset, thin, short, rangy?

Himeka is 5'2.4" exactly which is max height on the character creation slider for female Au Ra. Which also means she thinks she is VERY TALL since she was one of the (though she says she was THE) tallest women in her village. Yes, this means even when she is looking at people who are taller than her, she considers herself their equal.

Auri women are traditionally petite, though Himeka herself is on the curvier (NSFW) end. I also headcanon that Au Ra of Sui-no-Sato have longer tails than their land-based counterparts to help them swim, so she also sports a long tail.

2. How old is she?

She's around 24 at the start of A Realm Reborn (where XIV begins). Depending on where you put the timeline of XIV events it varies from there. In AT she's around 27-28 at the start of the game.

3. Describe her posture. Does she carry herself well or does she slouch?

She has a relaxed, but decent posture most of the time. She doesn't tend to stand perfectly straight but usually has her weight shifted to one hip or the other. She favors her left hip.

4. How is her health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?

She is decently fit out of necessity. Her childhood got her in the habit of always moving and that's carried over into adulthood. She rarely makes a point to exercise specifically but being active and adventuring has kept her in shape. She would not hold up physically to characters who do train and are overtly strong.

Himeka has always prided herself on rarely if ever falling sick. She avoided the various illnesses that plagued her village as a child and as claimed to never have caught a cold. No known allergies.

5. How does she move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?

It depends on the context. She has moments of comical clumsiness but she's pretty fluid on the battlefield, in part because casting and magic comes naturally to her. But overall she is very in tune with her body and knows how to move with it. Her moments of clumsiness are usually related to poor decisions on her part rather than specifically related to her physicality.

6. How attractive is this character physically? How does she perceive herself in the mirror?

Himeka is very pretty. I like to joke she looks like a Disney princess but acts like a gremlin. She does not wake up with birds singing, but her hair does somehow have the ability not to look like a total mess no matter how much trouble she gets into it.

She doesn't consider herself anything other than average. The one thing she is very proud of are her pearlescent scales due to the fact that her mother would praise them in her childhood, so she makes a point to take care of them. Compliments to those earn her favor very quickly.

7. Describe her complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?

She has lighter skin with a pinkish hue, evenly toned. She has a few scars on her back and legs but given her nature as a healer, she can usually treat wounds before they are able to become too serious. The worst one she would consider is a missing scale by her left ankle that now MOSTlY grows in properly, but it got ripped out when she was fishing as a child. Non-Auri people probably can't tell but she sure can.

8. Describe her hair: color, texture, style.

Her hair is red, thick, and wavy. It does highlight naturally when exposed to the sun and can look pinkish at the ends (oldest pieces). She has a LOT of hair. When she begins her journey in ARR it's at her shoulders but by the end of SHB it's down to her waist. She has either long or no bangs. She's spent most of her life just letting it be free, but these last few years she's started to braid it or put it up, mostly out of utility, later for style as she started to realize she likes doing things with it, though she still wears it down most often.

9. What color are her eyes?

They are magenta. And like most Au Ra, she has limbal rings that surround her irises. Hers are bright pink which kind of glow in the dark which can be very creepy when she's staring at you.

10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?

She's an Au Ra so she has two fin-like horns on either side of her head instead of ears, a long spiky tail, and scales all over her body. She's very proud of all of this, thank you.

11. What are her chief tension centers?

Her neck and shoulders. She will melt with a massage.

12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does she have six of the same suit?

She began wearing whatever she could find. Himeka would wear a tin can and a burlap sac if she needed to. But thanks to her good friend Kharl Dotharal (aka the Weaver of Light), she ended up being something of a living model for his projects so she was always given nicer clothes than she would have picked up herself. She started to acquire her own fashion taste from the things he's made her and now can mostly be trusted to shop for herself. Mostly. (She will wear ridiculous shit for fun.)

Himeka prefers to wear skirts and dresses of varying lengths, though she usually is showing some leg. Tights with garters or long boots are a thing. Big flowy sleeves is another. Her battle clothes are mostly white and black with red and gold accents (due to her being a White and Black mage primarily). She refuses to wear pants. This is her main constant.

Casually she likes to wear loose and flowy dresses for the most part (also no pants), though sometimes loose or cropped tops and some sort of bottom. She mixes in some greens, blues, and pinks since they are the same colors as her scales.

When she began her journey she really didn't give much attention to her appearance but it was her friends who basically dressed her and helped her find a particular style which finally got her to move forward and not only wear random terrifying pieces of gear she found in dungeons. Friends are also the reasons she actually started doing things with her hair other than just let it grow and be free.

In AT she's regulated to what is available in Greentruth, so mostly leathers and furs in earthy tones. Still no pants tho. Tiddies free if possible.

13. Do her clothes fit well? Does she seem comfortable in them?

Because a lot of her clothing was custom-made for her in canon, yes. But to be fair she feels comfortable in basically anything. She'd look comfortable walking around naked.

14. Does she dress the same on the job as she does in her free time? If not, what are the differences?

Oops, answered above...she does tend to just be more casual on her own but honestly she doesn't care too much about differentiating between the two. Battle outfits just tend to be a little more complicated.

15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?

Commando.

Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?

Her voice inspiration is Emily Blunt's natural speaking voice. Her voice is "middle-pitched"?? Not not high but not particularly deep.

2. How does she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does she talk easily, or does she hesitate?

Her voice is on the softer side but not soft. The speed can vary if she's relating something she's excited about where she speaks much more quickly, otherwise she keeps a relatively even pace. She hesitates when she's at a loss for words.

3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?

As with most of the XIV English cast she has a #BritishAccent. It does have a bit of a raspy quality when she says some things but is on the warmer end.

4. What language/s does she speak, and with how much fluency?

She speaks the Sui-no-Sato Hingan dialect fluently as well as Hingan in general. The Echo allows her to understand (and speak?) all languages so she's got that going for her.

5. Does she switch languages or dialects in certain situations?

She has probably lost some of her accent by now but she would have spoken common Eorzean with one. The Echo helped that go away.

6. Is she a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about her words?

She usually just says whatever comes to mind, but prefers to let other people dot he talking if she can. Taking time to think about what she says first has been a work in progress for her that she's gotten better with. She's just a very earnest person.

7. Is she eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?

Neither? She's just very casual with how she speaks to most people in most situations. (As far as casual goes with XIV since there there's a bit of more nuanced fantasy speak even win the less fancy characters.)

Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is she book-smart or street-smart?

Definitely street-smart over book-smart. Growing up on a farm under the sea meant that her education was primarily necessity only based, though she got a crash course in writing and study when she was pushed forward into her Priestess training.

I like to think that the Echo helps with spoken/verbal languages rather than written, so my headcanon is that she struggled as an Arcanist initially not because of her magical abilities but because she couldn't read her grimoire. Even with help and being able to read and write Eorzean, she's still a little hesitant and strays from book-learning. She also doesn't have the patience for it as she'd rather be out doing things.

2. Does she think on her feet, or does she need time to deliberate?

She feets without thinking. "Just pull the lever and see what happens!"

3. Describe the character's thought process. Is she more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?

Definitely intuitive, she trusts her gut on most things. She can be both idealistic and practical--the latter coming more into play as she's gotten more experienced and older. Himeka admires idealism in others but also sees the limits the real world puts on it. She wants to believe and push for those dreams as well as stretch those limits, even though she knows it can't always be done.

4. What kind of education has the character had?

Already touched on, but minimal education pre-Priestess education. Once she began her training at the Shisui Palace, it was a crash course but she wasn't held to standards too high in book learning since her purpose there was her for her "prophecies" and connection to the ocean.

5. What are her areas of expertise? What, if anything, is she interested in learning more about?

She's an extremely adept sorceress so magic and aetherial manipulation is definitely an area of expertise. Granted it comes naturally so she isn't always the best at explaining it. She could still use more practice and study and would probably become insanely powerful if she did. But she likes to go with the flow.

She's an accomplished Culinarian and has won awards and acclaim in her training and career. Himeka is also an expert fisher both because of her upbringing under the water and her training in the Fisherman's guild.

She is curious about learning new things all the time but has a tendency to drop things quickly as soon as her interest strays. She'd like to try anything at least once.

6. Is she an introvert or an extrovert?

Extrovert. A quiet extrovert, but an extrovert nonetheless. She loves being around people and is energized by their presence. Though every once in a while she does need a moment of peace, that's usually less to do with other people and more to do with her own mental state.

7. Describe the character's temperament. Is she even-tempered or does she have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?

Very even-tempered. Like too even-tempered sometimes. Luckily she does have moments where she goes ape-shit but that usually is prompted by danger happening to people she cares about. She tends to be pleasantly friendly and laid back. Her moments of melancholy are ones she tries to have in private.

8. How does she respond to new people or situations? Is she suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?

Can you be both relaxed and enthusiastic? Not much makes her nervous and she loves meeting new people and trying new things. But she's also very casual about a lot of it.

9. Is she more likely to act, or to react?

React, mostly, though she's getting better at being proactive. Passivity has been a trait she's trying to work against.

10. Which is her default: fight or flight?

Fight. Always fight. People have to force her to flee.

11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does she appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?

She has a weird sense of humor. Literally the only time she's good at lying is when she's joking, not when it actually matters. She likes puns, sarcasm, as well as over the top bonkersness. She appreciates humor in turn and even when she's the butt of the joke she tends to laugh at most things.

12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does she deal with them?

She definitely has PTSD. To say she's been through and see some shit would be an understatement. She's seen people she cares about die in front of her, been on the frontlines of several wars, and feels responsible for much of it. Reliving these events is something the tries to avoid by distracting herself with other things and avoiding sleep as much as possible. She was at the height of her inability to cope at the end of Shadowbringers but has been pulling herself together throughout Endwalker.

Most of her dealing has been "fake it 'til you make it" which is a terrible way go to through things. She's coping as well as she can and focusing on other disasters that need her attention (ha) has been both a reason for her to push forward and adding fuel to the fire. All things considered as emotionally tired as she is, she's been dealing relatively successfully. She's found less destructive hobbies to put her energy into, but she does fear idleness since it lets her mind wander areas that she would rather not.

Though she has people she can certainly relate to, Himeka is terrible at talking about these things. (Silent Protag Syndrome?) She could do with some therapy.

13. What moments in this character's life have defined her as a person?

SO MANY THINGS.

Himeka decided to pick selfishness for the first time in her life and leaving her village, family, and responsibilities was huge. It was freeing for her but also let her carry around that guilt that she was afraid to confront. Going back home and apologizing to find that her family just worried for her and still loved her was huge. That she could help Sui-no-Sato open up to the world was ALSO huge. She feels she's almost repaired that part of her life.

Traveling to Limsa Lominsa. She discovered her passion for cooking there and it has been one of her true loves every since.

Y'shtola finding her and inviting her to the Waking Sands. She believes that the Scions and Y'shtola in particular have changed her life and doesn't think she would have made it as far as she did without them.

Traveling to Gridania and joining the Conjurer's Guild. She finally had a name to what she could do as a Hearer, speaking to Elementals, and found that Conjury was perfectly in line with her natural ability to manipulate aether. She ended up inheriting the soulstone from the late White Mage A-Towa-Cant as well, making her one of the few White Mages in the world and the only one who was born outside of the Black Shroud. (A-Towa-Cant is, in my mind, one of her past incarnations.)

The assassination at the Sultanate and almost all of her newfound family offering themselves up so she and a few others could escape. For the first time she was confronted with how big their actions were and Himeka realized that her responsibilities now couldn't be shirked onto her colleagues and that she could lose them too. It was shattering and made her grow up.

God like ALL of Heavensward?? She was at her lowest and questioning her purpose and ability to protect the people she's come to care about and found new family and friends in the midst of a bitterly old war. At the beginning she was greeted with suspicion by the city at large especially considering her draconic features, but in the end she became part of a new family, made some of the best friends she will have from here on out, and found new confidence in a city that came to hail her as a hero. Ishgard becomes as second home.

Helping liberate Ala Mhigo and Doma. Her village was founded in the sea to avoid war and conflict and she saw first hand on the surface how people can suffer because of it, but also how much it was worth fighting for freedom. It really helped her ground herself as well as was showing her how far she may go in battle.

Traveling to the First. It was the farthest she'd been from home but also all the events that transpired broke so hard into her psyche, Himeka was already questioning her worth and purpose and began to lose her sense of self as well. It was here she learned Black Magic.

Meeting Emet-Selch and finding out about her past incarnation. This fed heavily into her existential crisis and really made it worse. It led her to question the validity of her own actions, what she thought about fate (she doesn't like it), her shortcomings, etc. Fun times. But in the end...she comes to the decision that it's who she is now and what she does with her time that matters most. And she believes that of anyone.

14. What does she fear?

Loneliness. Failure.

15. What are her hopes or aspirations?

She does want to help make the world a better place. As grueling as her duties may be, she finds them rewarding and wants to live up to the expectations that people have of her.

On a personal level, Himeka wants to be a traveling chef and continue to discover new places and new recipes. And as much as she enjoys traveling by herself, it's best with friends. So doing it more often with people she cares about or a permanent traveling companion would be ideal for her.

16. What is something she doesn't want anyone to find out about her?

How selfish she is/she believes she is. While she clearly supports indulgences, she does feel guilty sometimes when she takes time/does things specifically for herself even if she encourages other people to do the same.

Also, how much she actually enjoys battle. She's a healer...but there is thrill in battle. She likes getting stronger, she likes feeling powerful. It scares her a bit.

Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with her parents.

She had a positive relationship with both of her parents growing up. Himeka was definitely closer with her mother who tended to favor her being the only daughter, but she loved and respected them both. Wanting to make them happy and do things that would make them proud of her was a motivation for most of her life.

It is in part feeling that she betrayed their trust and love when she finally decided to leave Sui-no-Sato unexpectedly and without notice. Though she has reconciled with her mother upon her return years later, she will always carry the guilt that her father passed away before she could reconcile with him too.

2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?

She has two older brothers who were very fond and protective of her. When she was very small Himeka liked to follow them around and copy whatever it was they were doing. They were sad to see her go off to the Palace for her training and she would try to keep in contact with them almost as much as her mother.

They both forgave her when she came back to Sui-no-Sato as well and Himeka found out she's an aunt twice over!

3. Are there other blood relatives to whom she is close? Are there ones she can't stand?

Not really. TBH I haven't put too much thought into aunts and uncles, grandparents, etc. So her overall family dynamic has been good but not particularly intense.

4. Are there other, unrelated people whom she considers part of her family? What are her relationships with them?

Absolutely. The Scions and House Fortemps are her found family unequivocally. She loves them all dearly even if her relationships with each member are a little different. Overall very positive. Her friendly nature made it so she got along fairly easily with Thancred and Lyse (Ida) early on, but she has soft spots for everyone. I like to believe Urianger helped her learn how to read/write Eorzean and she considers Y'shtola the woman who changed her life. The twins are like her children/younger siblings, Minifillia was someone she looked up to, and G'raha is someone she considers part of "team redhead". Edmont is a surrogate father-figure and Emmanellain and Artoriel are brothers.

Also, Ryne and Gaia are her sister-daughters.

5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?

Estinien is her best friend. They met in Coerthas when the Scions were starting to make contact with Ishgard, but they didn't really get to know each other until she had to flee to Ishgard for asylum. In their attempts to end the Dragonsong war, they travelled together and fought side by side and he was one of the people she became quite fond of, even if he is the sort of begrudgingly accept friendship and affections.

Getting to reconnect with Estinien at the end of Shadowbringers and his subsequent joining of the Scions reminded her of how much they have in common despite outwards appearances. To her it felt almost like no time had passed between them and she was happy to see that he has grown in his own travels. He quickly became her best friend in the events that followed.

They have that uncanny ability to spend time together while saying nothing but just enjoying each other's company and enjoy many of the same hobbies as well. (Well, he's learning hobbies and she's helping him.) He's since realized he's collecting dragonettes and she's one of them.

6. Does she have other close friends?

Aymeric, Kharl, and Ehll Tou.

7. Does she make friends easily, or does she have trouble getting along with people?

Everyone starts with +10 friendship bonus. It's extremely easy to become her friend.

8. Which does she consider more important: family or friends?

Friends are family to her.

9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has she been married more than once?

She is perpetually single but she has had several FWB relationships and was technically engaged once upon a time. But that engagement ended when she fled Sui-no-Sato and she honestly hasn't tried to find that poor man even when she returned. It's #awkward.

10. Is she currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?

Nope. Himeka has technically never been in a relationship as her engagement was something of an agreement rather than mutual interest.

11. Who was her first crush? Who is her latest?

Y'shtola...shh. Her latest is [REDACTED]

12. What does she look for in a romantic partner?

A good question since she's never technically dated. I think she would be up for anyone she was attracted to if/when she can decide that commitment isn't something that would keep her in one place.

Which is...someone who is understanding that she's a free spirit and will come and go with her whims and her jobs but always return to them. People who are passionate about something and she can get excited about with them--it doesn't have to be similar interests, she just likes to see what people love and makes them happy. Though anyone who loves food too is a plus since that's her passion and she will inevitably feed them. Also preferably someone who is okay with being physical since that (and random gifts) are how she shows affection most naturally.

13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does she relate to them? If no, does she want any?

She adopts wayward teenagers. Does that count? Alphinaud, Alisaie, Ryne, and Gaia all count. She loves them all to pieces. She is very encouraging (perhaps too encouraging) of antics and shenanigans and isn't overtly protective since she supports them into making dubious choices, but she would cut a man for hurting them. (Assuming they couldn't cut the man themselves.)

14. Does she have any rivals or enemies?

She has so many she doesn't even know all their names. Comes with the territory of being a RPG Protagonist Warrior of Light.

15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does she fall on the Kinsey scale?

Solid 3. Everyone is fair game.

16. How does she feel about sex? How important is it to her?

She enjoys sex, even if her first experience was very disappointing. But she thinks it's a fun thing to do to pass the time as well as a neat way to feel close to someone. Her experience has been primarily random hook-ups and some friends with benefits, all of which have taught her a lot about herself and how to have a good time. Consequently she hasn't tied sex to romance and I think that experience would be a curious one for her. (Sex with feelings? Double rainbow?)

During the latter half of XIV she's not in the best state of mind, however, and she's not had sex in a couple of years. She wants it to only be tied to positive things so she's just not been up for it again until very recently.

Since she hasn't been in a true romantic relationship she wouldn't know what the balance would be with that person, but she would probably find it important even if she'd be patient to wait for the other person to catch up.

17. What are her turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?

Man she's pretty open-minded so it's hard to say what she wouldn't try or what she specifically would. Since she loves food she'd enjoy sex + food most, I would think. But in general she just wants to have a good time and have her parter have a good time. She'd try anything they wanted to and be able to set aside anything they wouldn't want to.

Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does she fit type?

Erm...to fill out Eorzean paperwork she had to pick a patron deity and chose Nymeia? I think based on her namesday she's a Virgo which does not fit her at all.

2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in her life?

Spiritual to an extent, mostly cultural. She did train as a Priestess for the Ruby Princess so she has a history with that and has seen that the Kami are, indeed, real. But whether or not they're deserving of worship is something else entirely. She is able to commune with elementals aka nature spirits so there is another layer of life that she's connected to. But she's also spent much of her career as a WOL destroying false gods, so...

3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?

Himeka doesn't believe she does but that's mostly because she second guesses herself and constantly looks to people she looks up to as an example of what she should be and believe in.

But in truth she believes that everyone deserves a chance to make right, that they deserve the benefit of the doubt. This has been tested again and again and she's been systematically too trusting, but she's also seen people turn around. It takes quite a bit for her to give upon someone but she has once or twice, usually when they've hurt too many. She's willing to risk her safety but not that of others. That one is uncompromising.

What she believes in most strongly is that fate is BS and that everyone is in charge of their own actions. That has been tested many times and she even took up a job as an Astrologian during her time in Ishgard when she was feeling lost, but ultimately decided that she could only rely on herself and the people in front of her to make the right choices.

4. How does she regard beliefs that differ from hers? Is she tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?

Curious more than anything. As long as those beliefs aren't harmful she wants to hear about them.

5. What prejudices does she hold? Are they irrational or does she have a good reason for them?

Himeka is pretty open-minded but she does believe that having scales is definitely preferred to not having scales and horns hear better than fleshy ears. Her reasoning behind them is she's a lizard.

Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is she rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?

Her current canon financial situation is wealthy. Having lots of retainers and doing tons of odd jobs brings in the coin but she tends to spend it on food or her friends and back to Sui-no-Sato to help them bring in much-needed supplies. So she lives comfortably and can prepare for travel and you wouldn't really know how much money she does have based on her lifestyle.

2. What is her social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected her?

She started out as a farmer, instantly moved up in the village social hierarchy when she began to work at the Palace, then her status went down again as she fled Sui-no-Sato and basically lived as a drifter. She slept under bridges in Kugane and in Limsa Lominsa since she had no money. It moved up again when she started to gain and income and name for herself as an adventurer, then down again when the Scions lost respect and she had to flee to Ishgard.

Since then she's held in high enough regard through most of Eorzea. She doesn't particularly care for status, though. It's affected in her in availability of resources and ease of mobility, but it's never been her goal to climb any social ladder.

In AT she's...local Aion status?? In Greentruth? Some Kenoma have seen her get angee in Venera so a few know her name thanks to Emet-Selch name-dropping her too.

3. Where does she live? House, apartment, trailer? Is her home her castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does she share it with others?

Canonly she has (finally) purchased some land in Limsa Lominsa but she doesn't spend a ton of time there, it's really only there when she wants to crash and take part in the Ocean Fishing voyages. Beyond that she just likes to travel and will happily camp in the middle of no where or find inns or friendly homes to crash at. In Ishgard she's able to stay at the Fortemps Manor rent free which is nice.

In AT she is just living in the communal housing in Greentruth and will also happily camp in the middle of no where. I hope that she can build out a custom home in the trees some day.

4. Besides the basic necessities, what does she spend her money on?

Food...always food. Expensive cooking items, rare ones. Minions. Then food again.

5. What does she do for a living? Is she good at it? Does she enjoy it, or would she rather be doing something else?

She's an adventurer for a living since she gets paid to do quests and as kind of a hand for hire. She does enjoy it because she can travel and help people.

Himeka wants to be a chef for a living, however. A traveling one!

6. What are her interests or hobbies? How does she spend her free time?

Cooking (shocking), fishing (also shocking), traveling (god it's like she has 3 things she likes to do). All of those are her interests and her hobbies. But she's an inherently curious person and always wants to try new things. She enjoys dancing as well, just for fun, like if at a party or a bard broke out their lute at the aetheryte. (She's actually a decent singer but no one knows this. She's not shy, it's just not something she does often around people since there's rarely any need to.)

7. What are her eating habits? Does she skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?

Eating habits: everything. Himeka always has snacks on her. Always. She prefers not to skip meals if she can and if she has to she snacks along the way. She will eat out, in and everywhere. She definitely drinks and was a terrible lightweight initially but drinking contests with pirates in Limsa have taught her how to hold her liquor. She will avoid nothing as everything deserves to be tasted at least once.
